About Hana Amer Kawas
Nice to meet you, I'm Hana Amer Kawas, I was born and raised in the Druze tradition in Kfar Julis, near Acre. When I grew up, I left the village in favor of studying fashion design and accessories at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, where I obtained a BFA degree with excellence. My designs were presented to the public as part of the exhibition "Fashion Statements: Decoding Israeli Clothing" at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
I fulfilled my vocation and dream of becoming a local fashion designer. I returned to the village where I live and design the SETAT brand that combines fashion and traditional Druze embroidery. The designs are a tribute to the women of the village and especially to my grandmother Hana, a master embroiderer who taught me to draw and embroider and is for me a center of inspiration and a childhood landscape.
SETAT means "strong women" and I want to place these strong village women in the center of the stage. In the designs, You can be impressed by the inspiration of the village women, where the inspiration is drawn from them because they are the ones who create the embroidery by hand, using cotton, wool, silk, velvet, beads and sequins. The fashion line reflects a combination of traditional, unique and high-quality embroidery made by hand by the women of the village combined with sophisticated digital printing techniques. The production process is based on fair occupational codes adapted to the embroiderers' needs.
